What about something like http://luckybackup.sourceforge.net/screenshots.html

A field in the preferences to select the localisation.
Although the rpm package on my distro (Mandriva) includes an .mo file for my language (fr), there is no evident way to activate the language.
Despite the fact that almost all other applications automatically detect my language.
It would be a plus if grsync also automatically detected the system language, but manual selection would be required in any case, for multilingual systems.

Another feature which would be very much appreciated :
direct support for the --link-dest option

Thanks :)

locale is automatically managed by the libraries used by grsync, as all the other programs.
there must be some problems with the language file or its name, what exactly is your locale? fr_FR?

It is fr_CA.
Most programs automatically recognize my language as French.
I just checked -- that was the problem.
Yours was the ONLY application under fr_FR. I copied it to fr (where there were already 230 other entries) and it works fine.

Note that fr_CA sets non-linguistic aspects of the locale as well, which differ from those of France, but the language is (essentially) the same.
Considering that you are using the locale only for the language, it would be probably better to only include the language code.
This will then be usable by all using the language in question, whatever their designated country.
Of the localisations included, only zh_CN does not have a common writing for all speakers of the language.

BTW, I've been meaning to contact you about some ideas I have for changes.
Having now used grsync to back up my system, I find the login to root and saving the sessions very convenient. I have a number of partitions for different purposes, which are all backed up separately, to a local usb drive.

However :
1) It is awkward not being able to save changes to a session under the same name. Particularly for backups using the link-dest option, which will change every time it is used.
I can see having a warning so that a session isn't accidently overwritten, but please let us update sessions.

2) The basic and advanced option tabs would be best on the same tab.
Then it would be much easier to ensure that everything is configured as one wishes, as everything could be scanned at once.
The other option tab could stay separate since in concerns mostly secondary aspects that don't directly affect what is backed up.
However I would move the "run as superuser" option with the main options.
Once the link-dest option is added, the ideal place for it would be just under the source and destination fields.
Otherwise the order of "basic" options on top with "advanced" below seems good.
On the whole, otherwise I like very much the presentation, although there are a few minor details I might change.
If you like, I could make a graphic of the suggested layout.

In any case, thanks for this handy front end to rsync. :)

hello,

thanks for your detailed feedback.
fr.po has already been indicated as a better solution by someone before, I will include this little change in the next release.

about your point one, i actually do not understand what you mean. every change to a session is saved automatically. if you wish to make another equal session, just add and it will start with the same options.

about point 2, I cannot merge the basic and advanced tabs because it would make the main window too big, and because most people do not care about advanced options; for those people it would make the program messy too.
it is not coherent to move the "root" option to another tab because it is not a rsync option, that's why it's on the "extra" tab. basic and advanced are rsync options, extra are grsync-specific.

1) I didn't realise that sessions were automatically updated.

2) For a user doing full backups using --link-dest, 5 of 14 options on the first tab aren't useful, but 4 of 12 options on the second tab are essential, as well as the superuser option on the third tab being a definite plus.
If a user has a small screen (by todays standards), combining the 2 tabs would be difficult, but maybe a partial page could be tabbed ? (i.e. more common parts on top, with 3 tabs below.)
